act 1

While at court are being held celebrations for the coronation of the new Emperor Anastasius and his marriage to Ariadne, comes the news that the troops of the invading enemy Vitaliano have crossed the Bosphorus. The ambassador of these Polidarte arrives at the palace carrying offensive conditions of peace, among which is also included on the granting of the hand of Ariadne to his sovereign. A terrible monster rises from the waters and then head towards the poor and shackled Ariadne, the echo of which, however, desperate cries reach up to Justin, who rushes to confront and kill the monster. Anastasio and Arianna are so united and everyone can go back to sea as a result of the calming of the storm. When Vitaliano, repentant, comes in search of Ariadne, found only the body of the monster and then intends to win the girl's heart through his sincere repentance.
